1. ORANGE & MULTICOLOR SEQUIN FLAP BAG NEW MINI

From Chanel’s Cruise 2021 collection, this new model of the mini Flap bag is crafted in red, orange and yellow sequins and mixed fibers, featuring metallic gold-tone detailing and finished with antiqued gold-tone ‘CC’ turnlock and chain hardware.

About the Collection:

Originally set to take place in Capri, Italy, Chanel’s Cruise 2021 runway show became the house’s first ever virtual runway show due to extenuating circumstances around the world. The virtual show was shot by photographer Karim Sadli who expertly recreated a nostalgic Capri sunset for the studio backdrop. Creative director Virginie Viard, who had actually never visited the italian island herself, refers to this digital collection as “Balade en Méditerranée” meaning “A Mediterranean Jaunt”. Viard interpreted Capri summer looks as easy silhouettes, meshing “cool girl style” with effortless sophistication. The “wear anywhere and everywhere” mentality especially applies to accessories of the collection. Bold colors blended with intricate embellishments take these italian resort-inspired pieces from day to night with ease.

2. WHITE & MULTICOLOR QUILTED TWEED CLASSIC DOUBLE FLAP MEDIUM

From Chanel's Spring 2015 collection, this medium Classic Double Flap bag is crafted in multi-tonal green and blue tweed with diamond quilting, featuring white textured tweed floral overlay and finished in Ruthenium hardware.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION:

This statement-making Spring 2015 collection was set on “Boulevard Chanel”, complete with a street scene of asphalt and “apartment building” glass windows. The models themselves were an integral part of the theme and represented protesters by carrying signs and shouting slogans. Karl Lagerfeld’s vision was an overarching theme of feminism with underlying political connotation. He achieved this vision through both literal and abstract interpretations. The duality of the theme was present through contrasting aesthetics- bold watercolor and street-inspired graffiti followed by femenine florals and lace. While Lagerfeld’s intention was always to defy the norms of fashion, this unprecedented display of feminism and political stance by the house surely made an impactful declaration.

4. BLUE CALFSKIN & IRIDESCENT PVC BOY BAG MEDIUM

From Chanel’s Spring 2017 collection, this medium Boy bag is crafted in blue calfskin leather with tri-border trim, accented with multicolor iridescent woven PVC paneling and finished with collection-exclusive rainbow metal hardware.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION:

Chanel’s futuristic Spring 2017 collection debuted on a data center-inspired runway, featuring a technology theme which included robots, wires, and circuit boards. While futuristic in some ways, Karl Lagerfeld once again pulled off a dynamic show by also incorporating nostalgic 80s and 90s looks influenced by the early days of the internet. The collection featured limited edition versions of iconic Chanel styles at every turn. What appeared to be a classic Boy bag was upgraded with iridescent accents and the house’s signature tweed was reimagined in bold colors with unexpected accessories. Lagerfeld managed to blend the initial excitement of technology with futuristic advancements, resulting in a highly sought-after collection.

5. PARIS-EGYPT BLUE DENIM & SHEARLING HIEROGLYPH FLAP MEDIUM

From Chanel's Pre-Fall 2019 Metiers d'Art Paris-Egypt collection held at the 10 B.C. Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, this updated medium Classic Flap bag is rendered in blue denim and natural shearling, featuring raw-edge hieroglyph appliqué with gold-tone embroidery along the edges.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION:

Typically inspired by a new location every year, Lagerfeld's iconic Chanel Pre-Fall Metiers d'Art collections embody the chosen locale's culture and aesthetic through the emulation of signature colors, materials and motifs. The cities are selected in homage to Coco Chanel’s life or to signify Karl Lagerfeld’s interpretation of the house’s future. The French name Metiers d'Art roughly translates to “craftsmanship” or “art professions" - aptly named due to the meticulous work of ateliers that create each piece included in these shows. There are numerous ateliers included in Chanel’s Paraffection subsidiary with each one responsible for a unique aspect of the construction. Chanel’s Metiers d'Art collections act as an annual reset to bring quality craftsmanship back to the forefront and to preserve fashion as a work of art.
