Introduced in 1947 and produced through the 50s, Levi’s 501XX features metal rivets inside the back pockets. These rivets were used to reinforce the pockets and render them more durable for coal miners who carried tools. Eventually, Levi’s stopped production with back pocket rivets due to the discomfort and the rivetless style became known as the “Big E”.
